Do monolingual school websites hinder parental engagement?

Are you able to understand all of the information that is shared with you from your child's school? Are you welcome to volunteer at the school, even if you are not (yet) fluent in the local language?


It is important not to overlook the role that parents play in their children's school success. An interesting blog post from Language on the Move explains how language becomes a social justice issue when parents are excluded from full and equitable participation in their child's schooling.


The post is based on findings from a study in Australia. It looked at what schools can do to make sure parents with a low proficiency in the school language can access information and stay involved.
