Since 2021, there is an international set of guidelines available to help heritage language programs worldwide, co-authored by HLE Network: the International Guidelines for Professional Practices in Community-Based Heritage Language Schools. If your program is new, this document can help you as you get started. If you are a long-established HL program, you can use it as a checklist or for self-evaluation.
This document is not only a powerful tool for people managing and teaching at HL programs, but it is also a sign to the greater community that HL teaching is a valid, global profession.
The document was presented and discussed this month at the 9th annual Community-Based Heritage Language Schools Conference in the U.S./online on October 8, 2022. Many thanks to Joy Kreeft Peyton for this possibility to participate in her team's annual conference. See below for a link to the video of this presentation.
Thanks also to our partners who presented the document at the NHLRC's Fourth International Conference on Heritage/Community Languages on June 16 - 17, 2022, in the U.S.
