An article in The Guardian about the importance of “intergenerational transmission” describes the crisis for endangered languages. Much also holds for heritage languages.


“Families around the world are hitching their fate to . . . dominant languages" and it has been normalized for people to stop passing on their mother tongues to children, which is a “disruption of a basic natural process.”
