June 23, 2024
On Sunday, June 23, the Romanian School in Eindhoven organized a successful community science festival just outside of Eindhoven, in Veldhoven. According to director Vlad Niculescu-Dincă, "We believe that it is possible that science promotion for everyone can be integrated seamlessly with traditions, arts, and heritage language education."
A STREAM event
The impressive event -- opened by the mayor of Eindhoven -- tied together the themes of science, community, books, technology, art, and craft. The event was labeled as a "STREAM" event, going beyond the more traditional "STEM" to include also the arts and reading. STREAM stands for "Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics."
Attention in the local media
Eindless Magazine wanted to know more about this network of volunteer scientists and engineers and spotlighted the Romanian community in Eindhoven. The Eindhovense Dagblad also reported on the event!
Poised to inspire other language groups
For professionals involved in heritage language education, it is possible to draw inspiration from the Romanian School in Eindhoven at the 6th Annual HLE Networking Night, where Vlad will run a micro-workshop about how to integrate science education with heritage language education. The session will use examples such as his summer science festival to help inspire other heritage language education programs organize similar STREAM courses and activities.
Any organization interested in giving a science workshop at future editions of the festival should reach out to the Romanian School in Eindhoven.
